Lets first start with hidding the boot screens. Here is what I ahve found:

XPe can immediately launch your application in place of the Explorer Shell,
but there are several splash screens that come-up while booting the device.
There are several settings and features in XPe that can be enabled to hide
some of these splash screens.

The first splash screen is the XPe Loading screen. This screen is black
background with the Windows XP Embedded logo in the middle with a status bar
pulsing at the bottom of the logo. In your configuration's setting details,
the splash screen can be turned off by select the "Do not display GUI boot
screens" check box found in Other Settings. /NOGUIBOOT will be added to the
boot.ini file and disable the screen.

If you select Winlogon instead of Minlogon, the Welcome screen, which
appears later during the boot cycle, can also be eliminated. In Winlogon's
setting details, there are two check boxes that need to be cleared: Show
Friendly WinLogon and Show "Welcome to Windows" screen before Winlogon. The
Automatic Logon component also needs to be added and configured so the
system can boot right into the application.

Your application can be the shell, the XPe help actual does a good job on
this one.

Lets first start with hidding the boot screens. Here is what I ahve found:

For most embedded devices it would be preferable to not only hide the Splash
screens, but to replace them with your own branding..

MS Licensing needs to look at this issue urgently.

We're using a custom BIOS to replace the normal BIOS boot screen with our
branding, but once XPe starts to load we're forced to use /noguiboot to get
rid of the fullscreen Windows Embedded startup screen.

Not good, as users have 30 seconds of blank screen.

If MS are happy for XPe developers to have the ability to turn off the
startup screen using /noguiboot, why is it not permitted to replace the
blank screen with a custom logo?
