I disabled my virus protection to download a joke virus
from my friend. Well the joke was, he joined a virus in
with it. It infected all my .exe files. I got them
cleaned. It wouldnt let me run most my applications. I
thought instead of installing them all, I would do system
restore. So I did that, and now applications run slower.
It takes a little over 5 minutes to start my shut down.
Anyone have any advice and tips to get it back up to speed?

A) beat the living crap out of your "Friend", then beat the crap out of
yourself. :)
B) Maybe run sfc (system file check). I'd also use a couple of different
virus scanners, and if possible, a cleaner written to handle the virus in
question (boot into safe mode to run this). SARC.com has several cleaners
for specific viruses.

Just a thought.... Did you have that Windows update that caused a slowdown
problem. If you did and removed it... System restore may have re-introduced
it.

Format the hard drive and reinstall Windows. Install and use a current
antivirus program and keep the definitions updated. Don't open
attachments. Get better friends.
