Is windows XP home 2002 the newest version of XP Home.
.

No that is not the newest XP. There is only three Xp
versions out there.

1. Win Xp Home
2. Win Xp Pro
3. Win Xp Tablet(for a palm piolit)

There is a new windows that is coming out soon in the
next few years. The code name for that is Longhorn.

But the question was about XP Home version. The answer is yes. Windows XP
Home version 2002 is the newest version of XP Home. If you apply SP1, or SP1
is integrated into the copy you installed, then System Properties will
display
Windows XP Home
version 2002
SP1

There has been only a single version of Windows XP, either Home
or Professional. There has been one service pack and several
hotfixes released for it. The second service pack is expected
this summer.

No, you are confusing the issue. These are editions, not
versions. He has XP Home Edition and wants to know if he has the
newest version of *it* or needs to get a newer one. The correct
answer is that he *does* have the latest version.

Also note that the Tablet edition has nothing to do with Palm
Pilots and won't run on them.

What is SP2 then ? Wouldn't SP2 (service pack 2??) be newer than SP1?
I have a 2 XP fixes/updates that say (SP2) like that as part of the
number. Perhaps SP2 is brand new and these are newer than the posting
date of this message?

It doesn't exist yet. There are only test versions. It's expected
to be released sometime this summer.

Microsoft's nomenclature is very confusing here. These fixes are
candidates for inclusion in SP2, and will presumably be part of
it when it's released.

Nope. Jim is correct. SP2 is not out yet, as I said.
