I had Windows XP Professional on my computer. I used a reinstallation CD for
Windows XP Home edition to install Windows XP onto the computer. All of my
files and programs are there, but no icons or anything works or shows up on
my desktop.
Is there a way to keep Windows XP Home edition and get my files and icons
back the way they were? If not, can I get everything back to the way it was
before the install?

Re-install your applications.
