Is there a maximum number of users that can access a share
on a Windows XP Home PC?? It looks to me it is 4-5..., and
any way to modify..

Thanks

Hi,

For Windows XP Professional, the maximum number of other computers that are
permitted to simultaneously connect over the network is ten. This limit
includes all transports and resource sharing protocols combined. For Windows
XP Home Edition, the maximum number of other computers that are permitted to
simultaneously connect over the network is five.

There is no way to modify this as it is a hard coded limit.

We have XP Home on 4 computers,XP Professional on 3, and
Windows 98 SE on 3 computers in our office. We have the
same problem, only 3 - 4 computers may access a share
file on one of the other computers at a time. I don't
know the fix, and am hoping someone will post it here.

The limit is 5 inbound connections to shared resources on XP HE.
The limit is 10 inbound connections to shared resources on XP PRO.
The only fixes AFAIK are:
1. Upgrade to W2K (W2K+3) server with enough client licenses.
2. Spread the shared resources over a few XP pseudo-servers.
3. Downgrade to W9x.
