WINDOWS XP HOME WILL NOT START

When turning on my computer it wants to start in a safe
mode which I let it do... then a blue screen pops up and
says UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME plus message about if you
have not seen this message before restart your computer
and start in safe mode..etc. plus this technical
information below...

it wil not let me do anything at this point I was able to
hit f10 to do a test on the hard drive ...failure code 7?
no manual boot?? not sure if I remember this exactly. A
friend says this means my hard drive is dead...if so is
there any way to get anything off of it..(no boot disc was
done) please email me back at above email or at

Power off
Desktop:...Open the case and reseat the hard drive IDE ribbon cable at
both ends.
Laptop:... simply remove and reinsert the hard drive.

Otherwise go to the website of the hard drive manufacturer and
download their hard drive diagnostics.

Do you have a hard drive overlay such as Max Blast?
Windows XP sometimes has issues with overlay software.
You may need to perform a Clean Installation without there overlay
software which is not needed anyway.
 
JUNIPER Not sure who hard drive manuf is came w/pc its a
compac /HP NOW. but will try the cable tho.
