windows xp home w/ sp2 and dvd rw are recognized as blank

frustrating this is; windows says contact emachine and emachine says
sp2 update should work; yet on window own help line it says to ask
for hotfix in one section and then tells me they won't and contact emachine;

will my dvd not write with windows media or any software now because
windows will not send me a hotfix ?

i am frustrated.

XP (original, SP1 and SP2) do not contain the bits to write to a DVD. Third
party software is needed for this.
