I currently am running Windows XP Home Version but now find a need to be able to connect to my employer's network. I am being told that network connection is not supported in the Home Version of XP and that I may need to upgrade to XP Professional

THE QUESTION: Is there a way to buy/upgrade only that portion of the program that is needed to provide network connection (without having to buy/install XP Professional and, in the process, wipe out all of my current Home Version files)? I am looking for the best and most economical way to buy/upgrade my system so that I may connect to my employer's network.

You'll need to purchase the conventional "retail upgrade version" of
Windows XP Professional and perform an "Upgrade" over XP Home.
That is the only way to get the advanced networking features necessary
to join a domain network.
