I've got a small business client using 8 HP desktops with
Windows XP Home on each unit. I'm having an issue where I
get the following Windows error message when I'm
attempting to map a drive from additional desktops after
four have connected to the single desktop which has a
central database repository they all need access to:The mapped network drive could not be created because the
following error has occurred:
No more connections can be made to this remote computer
at this time because there are already as many conections
as the computer can accept.
<<
Are there specific restrictions in XP Home or is there a
setting that can be modified to accept more than the
default?

For Windows XP Home Edition, the maximum number of other computers that are
permitted to simultaneously connect over the network is five. For more
details, see: 314882 Inbound Connections Limit in Windows XP

You probably want to consider upgrading to XP Pro which allows 10
connections.

Henk,

Windows XP Home is limited to 5 shared connections / computer.
Windows XP Professional increases the limit to 10 shared connections /
computer.

The keyword is connections, not shares. One computer using two shares
on a computer uses two connections. Two computers using the same
share on a computer likewise uses two connections.

Cheers,
Chuck
