I have a Compaq Presario s5000nx. it keeps rebooting, I could be reading
e-mail or just looking things up and it will restart. I replaced the
heatsink, but the fan that came with it is 5000 rpm's but the speed fan says
it is only 2800. Speed fan temps are fan 1 46c fan2 80c, hd 39c. Could the
problem be the power supply not being strong enough?

If your computer is restarting spontaneously, you are presumably
blue-screening, and you are set to the default of rebooting whenever
that happens. It's a poor default setting and you should change it.
Right-click My Computer, and choose Properties. On the Advanced tab,
click Settings under Startup and Recovery. Under System failure,
uncheck the box "Automatically restart.

Now when the problem occurs again, instead of restarting, you will get
the blue screen with diagnostic information. Post back with those
details for more help.

Also note that this is more likely to be a hardware problem than a
software one.

Most fans run in the 4,000 rpm range. If at 2800,then clean fan,if you
have the knowlege-disasemble,clean,oil anti-friction parts connecting the
armature & bearing assembly.Otherwise,purchase a new one.Fan temps
should be around youre 50c reading,80 is high.
