does anyone know why my computer doesnt boot right up to
the desktop screen. When I turn the machine on, I get the
DELL message, then the WINDOWS XP message, then a WINDOWS
profile screen comes up with my name on the right side.
As soon as I click on my name, it says loading settings
then I am at the desktop. Any ideas????

Click Start, Run and type "control userpasswords2", and click Ok.
Uncheck "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer"
option, and click Ok.

Ramesh.
I've tried this then Windows stops at Welcome screen without User name at
right.
I could get in by hitting Enter (many times) just before Welcome screen
appears - there's a some kind of message box appears but disappears too
quickly to read nor click..
What do you think?
Regards,

Press ALT+TAB to see if there are any logon error messages.
Also, have you entered the correct password while in "Control Userpasswords2" screen? Typing the password incorrectly can cause this.

Ramesh, Thank you for your quick reply.
I didn't have a password set so I didn't specify a passoword. Somehow as you
suggested I've set a password and tried again, it worked.
Thank you, Ramesh, much appreciated.
