I NEED TO KNOW HOW CAN I DO TO WATCH PPS. POWER POINT
PRESENTATION IN WINDOWS XP, I NEED BUY POWER POINT OR THE
ARE SOMETHING IN XP THAT CAN I USE IT TO WATCH THAT
FILES, THANK YOU SO MUCH.

First of all, please unstick your CapsLock key. Posting in all
caps, as you have done, is the Usenet equivalent of shouting, and is
considered very rude. More importantly, posting in all caps makes the
post very hard to read, further reducing your chances of getting help.

Neither the Microsoft Office application suite, nor any of its
individual component applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access,
Outlook, etc.), have _ever_ been "part" of *any* Windows operating
system. They are, and always have been, separate applications, that
must be purchased and installed separately.

Thank you for the input, however I am confused ...

I have XP Home Edition on my new PCU (not by choice) and
I have the CD for Windows 2000 Pro with all the ancillary
programs (word, excel, ppt. etc ...) from my previous
purchases, can I not load the ancillary programs I spoke
of above from W2000 Pro to my new PCU with the XP Home
Edition already installed?

I inserted the CD and immediately a prompt came up
stating that I was previewing an older version and would
be able to continue in a "read only" mode. Is there no
way to utilize my previous programs? if so, how can I
load only the three I spoke of above?

1) What is a "PCU"?

2) Please look up "ancillary" and find out what it means.

3) Word, Excel and Powerpoint are not a part of Win 2000
or any other version of Windows. If you have the
MS Office package, you should be able to install and
run the applications under XP. Your last paragraph
leads me to believe, however, that you have no idea what
you have.
 
Perhaps Tony has a recovery disk, containing the entirety of his preloaded
programs that came with the Win 2000 machine?
That may be why he views Works programs as "ancillary" (ancillary to
Windows)?
 
I find ancillary quite apt, especially when viewing the many synonyms
shown for it. Tom says his additional programs are on the same CD as
Win2000 Pro. Sounds like an OEM bundle, and they could be tied to the
OS, and not installable with any other OS.

Thank you for the responses ... I will be more speciic,
as I have lead some to believe that I am "clueless" to my
system and programs ... that said, here is what I have:

PCU = Desk top computer - "tower" (Dell system)
Win2000 Pro CD has both the OS download and the complete
Office Suites package on it, as stated previously, this
was supplied as a single source to re-load all the
applications in case of "emergency". ...
My question is "Why can't I load the Office Suite from
the W2K Pro CD provided into the new XP Home version? It
does not make sense to me. I know I am not as literate or
saavy as it seems many of the people are in this group,
however I hope this will not prevent someone from
providing an answer to what my solution is (if there is a
solution)

As Bob told you, it appears that you are trying to load Office into XP from
a OEM disk with 200 Pro. This disk came with your Dell computer and can only
be used to restore the original system/software.
 
Hi

You will need the original office CD to load Office on to your PC.
The CD with your Dell will be operating system ONLY.
As a thought if you don't have an MS Office CD, and purchasing office
(legally) is expensive for home use, you could have a look at Star Office,
it is totally MS Office compatible and a lot cheaper.
