I can't get beyond Windows XP Home Edition Screen - won't
start up. I had previously been on internet logged off
came back and it wouldn't successfully reboot. I've tried
setting back to defaults and the f keys for reboot at
last known to work etc. Could it be a virus? If I buy an
upgrade can I even install it?

see if you can start up in safe mode start tapping the F8
key soon as you hit the power on. If you can start up in
safe mode thats a good thing.I want to know how you could
not get windows to boot up and set things back to defalt
settings? you may have a BIOS issue or power supply going
bad. if after you see the XP home edition screen it stops
and says we are sorry there is a problem then choose start
windows normaly and just keep on doing that it should
finally start up for you after a few trys. good luck
