Hi,

I have a problem with dns in my Windows XP Home Edition.
I'll try to connect WEP with Internet Explorer or Netscape
but can't browse any pages. I'll get a DNS error. ping
works fine with IP addresses but not any names.

Does anybody know how to resolve this kind of problems ?

Many thanks,

Heikki

Hi,

Where is the client pointing for DNS? Can other clients resolve names when
usingthe same DNS server? Have you tried pointing to a different DNS server?

Hi,

What you mean 'where is the client?'. I'll use a global
internet provider in Finland. Other clients as well my old
Windows 98 machine can obtain names and works fine. I'll
use 'obtain DNS server addresses automatically' feature.
So I haven't any choice to change or point to a different
DNS server. I think this error due to my WinXP
configuration but don't really know what's wrong or how-to
resolve this. What things should I check or do ?

BR, Heikki

On the XP client go to Start/Run type "cmd" then in the command windows type
"ipconfig /all" and you will see the IP address of the DNS servers the
client is using. Try to ping these IP addresses.

Also are the XP clients using any Hosts files? Check your system
directory\system32\drivers\etc directory.

Try flushing the DNS client cache - ipconfig /flushdns
