Windows XP have to switch off manually

Since having a new hard drive fitted windows xp does not
turn off automatically as before. It seems to turn off
but then comes up with the words "It is safe to turn your
computer off now", then I have to told the button in for
30 seconds. Can anyone help me please.

Since having a new hard drive fitted windows xp does not
turn off automatically as before.
Your motherboard should support windows xp OS.

Also verify from the control panel that there is no conflict between
hardwares. Sometimes improper addition of hardwares results in
problems.

A probable cause is that your installation found the BIOS does not
adequately support the 'Advanced Configuration & Power Interface'
(ACPI). It then installs the older APM, but leaves it disabled. Go to
Control Panel - Power Options, and if there is an APM page, check
'Enable APM' on it.

This ought not to have happened just as a result of installing a new HD
unless the installation was not properly carried out. But if APM is
there, the usefulness of ACPI on a desktop probably does not warrant
installing all over again
