Windows XP loads a lot of 'services' on start-up.
Sometimes these 'services' can stoop the system from
responding for some time as they are loaded. There is a
neat little program from Sysinternals @
http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/freeware/procexp.shtml.
I recommend that you install this program and ensure that
it has an icon on your desktop. When starting, click the
ProcessExplorer icon as soon as the desktop is visible.
It will still take a second or two to load due to this
system activity, but shoul load before everything is
done. This way you can monitor what's going on during
start-up. Once you have determined what is causing the
slow down, got to Black Viper's web site and look for
Windows XP Services. There is a lot of good information
on what services are for and which ones can be safely
disabled. You can significantly reduce start-up times by
disabling some of these unneccessary services.

Hope this helps, Ron borders (Independant Contractor)
