I have Win XP + SP2 and no other networking software. I regularly
access the Internet on my laptop in my bedroom at the other end of my
house from my study where my Belkin wireless router and modem are.
I often find the following oddity. If I move the cursor to the network
icon in the system tray, a little info balloon pops up saying "Signal
strength poor", even though I seem to have no problems with my
connection and it is fast. If I double click the network icon, I get a
"Wireless Network Connection Status" window which shows the signal
strength at 2 bars.
However, if I "view available wireless networks", which brings up the
Wireless Network Connections window, my network has 4 out of 5 bars
and when I hover the mouse over it, I get a message saying "Signal
strength very good".
Why is there this inconsistency?
