del' 'alt+f4'. so i have to restart it manually. this
happend everytime i do this.
is this a problem with my pc or is it a problem with
windows?
please could you help me.
thanx
mark.

Is the freezing permanent or intermittent ?

If you leave the pc for a few minutes after it has frozen, are you able to
use anything, like the mouse, for a few seconds, before it freezes again ?

Did you completely uninstall 98SE,then do a clean install
of XP?Or did you just install XP "over the top",as it
were?
I only ask since I bought a similar computer last
month. It came loaded with 98 SE.I had XP pro on my old
P.C.and so initially,I ran the XP pro set up cd without
first removing 98 SE.("upgrade")

It has taken a long time to sort out all kinds of trouble.
Basically,I'd guess your MAINBOARD cdrom is packed with
outdated Drivers and programmes.
Your best bet is a clean re-install of XP,but get updated
drivers for all your hardware-if possible, download from
the relevant websites and burn them onto disc.In this
way,you can test whether updated drivers do the trick, and
avoid reformat,if it's too daunting a prospect.

I'd personally recommend a clean reinstall,because sooner
or later, you may find all sorts of apps doing all kinds
of bizarre things,if you don't.

Sadly,I've found that though you may buy an expensive new
P.C. retailers can be sharks. They'll palm you off with
the bare minimum. They just love it when nothing works
with XP,so you go back to them and they charge you
another £50,just to install XP,from your own disc, then
take back the 98 SE disc, which you'd paid for when you
bought the O.S.(That's what happened to me.Can't be
legal,can it?)

Google search for black viper.com-he'll walk you through
the clean reinstall process.

Mark before i got my new computer, I wanted to load windows xp on my older computer about 4 years old. I went to the Dell help section and I ask about changing from windows 98 SE to windows XP. They told me that my mainboard on my computer would not support windows XP properly, it would load but i would have problems with it and it would or could be a nitemare. I think you need to contact the manufacture of your computer and ask the same question as I did. You may not be able to run XP on your computer. I finally decided to buy a new computer with XP on it and things are going well.
