Windows XP freezes when playing audio or video

Hope someone can help with this - have searched the
knowledge base but cannot find anything.

Whenever I play a video through media player, or an audio
file through winamp (but these are not the only
programs), XP crashes/freezes and I have to reboot. It
doesnt happen all the time but it ALWAYS happens when
either video or audio is playing through a seperate
program. I had this problem and then completely
reinstalled, re-formatted the hard disk but am still
having the problem.

The problem isnt specific to any particular time of day
its just completely random and sometimes I have no other
programs open.

Am using Win XP Home (but I did try using Win XP Prof and
it also happened using that) but it hasn't done it from
day one... probably about 2/3 months before it started
and now it always happens!!

Please help... Thanks ;)

hi
there are some probablities : u have to find out if the
power supply is in good condition , and have look the
motherboard screws are well tied , and check with
scandisk your hard drives for viruses.as u know when ever
u formated the hard drives they lost their quality .
that i have learned by my experience.
