Windows XP Firewall

I've set up the Windows XP firewall as follows:

* On
* No exceptions checked
* Don't allow exceptions

And "File & Printer Sharing" spontaneously gets opened up as an
exception usually within a day or so. What the heck is up with this OS?
Any way to genuinely lock it down? It's as if it *wants* to open up
my box or something.

It only opens on your LAN subnet, so what's the problem?

If you don't actually want to share files and printers on your LAN just
uninstall File & Printer Sharing in the Connection Properties.

If someone hacks through my firewall, the damage is not contained as
should be.

Also, I've seen some strange stuff with comcast setting up proxy
servers. As a result, I have a router firewall, a firewall on my linux
box, and limit traffic on my LAN to sftp/ssh as well. There's no
security substitute for paranoia.

I'll try it. I'm just annoyed the settings keep getting changed. Can't
figure out why Windows XP won't behave itself like linux.

Yes there is, and you get the commpulsive actions associated with your
paranoia cured into the bargain. Pull the ****ing plug.
