I am running windows xp home edition, SP2. I have a Mustek scanner attached
with multiple functions such as scan, copy, fax, email, and ocr. When I go to
send a fax and use the "preview" function, the faxes are illegible and they
transmit the same way. If I scan and print a hard copy using "scan"
function, the copy is fine and perfectly legible. Does anyone have any idea
what is wrong with my fax setup? If you need more info just let me know.
Thanks in advance for the help

It sounds like you are using the scanner preview function. This works
rapidly for formatting a scan, but is not useful until you do a real scan.
It sounds like the fax software doesn't know the difference between the two.
Somewhere along the line, the fax software changes the scanned image from
the format used by the scanner and it's software to a fax format. This can
also be a source of the problem, usually due to poor software, or lack of
memory.

I use the fax preview after running the real scan. The software is the Windows supplied software that comes with XP. There is not a memory problem as this setup worked in the past with the same equipment. I am trying to find out if this is a hardware or software problem as my first step to fixing it.
