What error do you get while dialing-up to net? The fax client console has
nothing to do with the COM port on your machine. Please make sure that
(1) There are no fax transmissions happening on the modem - either send or
receive.
(2) Fax client console is closed and the fax service up. (c:\net start fax).
(3) Try dialing up to the modem.

If this fails then please send us the make of the modem. If this is an
external modem sometimes resetting the modem works.
