HI
I am using Windows 2000 server as a file server and Windows XP PRO as a
client.
I have just started getting the below problem.
Each time I try to access my Excel or Word files on the server through a
mapped drive from the XP client I get errors such as: "File is locked for
editing" but the file is not open anywhere else. Even after rebooting the
client and server the same error occurs. Other files will open but will not
save. A temporary file is created that requires renaming. When you then try
to open this file the "File Locked" error occurs.
I have now noticed that all the folders on my Windows XP client are marked
with the read attribute that has also been greyed out. This also include the
maped drive to the server.
However the folders on the server do not have the read attribute checked.
Is this the cause of my problems or is there another issue here?
Thanks in advance of your answer.
Mick
