Hello everyone,

This is my first post on this board. I am having a boot issue that I can't
seem to find enough information about.
I am using Windows XP Embedded. During boot up the Windows XP logo appears
for a few seconds and then a blue screen stop error appears...

"CONFIG_LIST_FAILED
Check to see if any new hardware or software is properly installed….
Technical Information:
Stop: 0x00000073 (0x00000001, 0xC000017D, 0x00000004, 0xF8A40BB8)â€

If anyone has any suggestions for me it would be greatly appreciated.
thanks!

A little bit more info about the hardware and configuration would probably help.

What's your target storage for the system drive (partition)? Is it CF or USB flash by any chance?
If CF, was it marked as fixed or is it still removable? Please make sure it is "fixed".

Do you use EWF or FBWF? What file system is used?

The target device is a 8GB Compact Flash. The CF is manufactured by Silicon
Systems and I am fairly certain it is "fixed".
It is formatted as a single FAT32 partition and the partition is marked as
active.
The image has the file based write filter (fbwf) component included, but I
have it setup as "OFF" by default, so that shouldn't be an issue, right?

I have other identical devices that work fine. I am just trying to
understand why this particular device is experiencing this failure. We are
close to shipping the device to the field so I am just trying to understand
this failure.

A read a Microsoft article describing this failure (but with different
status codes) as a problem with a core registry hive that cannot be linked,
but I am not completely sure what that means. I have been trying to find
more information on these status codes but I have been unsuccessful so far.

I hope this helps. Thanks very much for your attention.

You can "test" the card and make sure it is fixed. Try to create more than one partition on the CF under XP Pro. If you can do that
on the target hardware (on the target hardware becuase you will also test the CF adapter), it is marked as fixed.

If you have other identical units that work fine I'd complain about the card - either damaged, or some bad blocks or not marked as
fixed.

I will take a look at that. Thanks very much for your help.

This site is a great resource. I hope to be able to help someone at some
point as well.
