Windows XP Embedded SP1

Is there a way to check and make sure that SP1 is installed on the
XP-E image I have? Also is there support one XP-E SP1 for WPA?

It is very strange that you don't have draft on features of your image
described.

Are you sure that you have "Windows XP Embedded" OS installed?

If you are sure, then tell us do you have access to command prompt?

Also more info on your image like result of command ver.

Size of ntoskrnl.exe, etc.

I know that Microsoft has a WPA patch for XP. Not exactly sure if
there is support for XP-E?

The company that makes the image for us doesn't supply me with a draft
on the features incorporated or fixes made (which I have been asking
for from the begining). The OS does say it is XP-E, but I want to
make sure that they are applying all the right patches that we want,
like SP1.

I have full access to everything, command prompt and all.

Under the command prompt it says Microsoft Windows XP [Version
5.1.2600].
In System / General field, it does state that it is Microsoft Windows
XP Embedded.

The Image size is 122MB and the file is a .PQI!

Is there a way to see if SP1 was preinstalled on the image? I would
think it would show up on the add remove software under control panel.

If you mean WPA as "Windows Product Activation" then this does not exists in
XPe. All images are activated during the FBA phase.

Since there is(or was) a bug in XPe with SP1, if special care was not taken
to correct this your image can be seen as without SP1 but it could still
have SP1 installed.

If company that makes you an image does not supply you with detailed info on
applied patches.
Then you will have a big problem to determine what patches are actually
applied.

One possible way for you to determine this is to download and extract all
XPe QFE updates.

And to do binary compare between QFE files and files in your image.
But this won't tell you 100% if all registry entries are changed.

Regarding SP1 you can at least compare XPe binaries to binaries that are
present in Windows XP with SP1.

Hellachuckles,

There was (and is) a bug in XPe SP1 about version registry values. If the
developer who made the image for you has not manually fixed that and
explicitly put the values in the image registry you won't see SP1 in the
control panel or anywhere else.

I guess the only way for you to find out the image version would be
inspecting MS binary file versions (Explore-->Properties on right
click-->Version tab-->File Version field). Most of the files (if not all) in
XPe SP1 will have file version=5.1.2600.1106 while non-SP1 versions are
5.1.2600.0.
E.g. you may check the version for kernel32.dll and userenv.dll that are
most likely in your image under %systemroot%\system32 directory.

Sorry about that Slobodan, (To many acronym's in this world!) I do
not mean WPA as "Windows Product Activation". I was meaning WPA as in
"Wi-Fi Protected Access" the improvement standard of WEP.

The bug is that when you build an XPe/SP1 image, by default the image won't
have the proper version info value in registry (hence, does not report the
right version on the System info page). You can fix that by adding the
following registry values to your TD configuration:

[HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Windows\CSDVersion],REG_DWORD,value
0x100
[HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion],REG_SZ,"Service Pack
1"

Also, search this NG archive for "CSDVersion" to get more info on the
subject.
