**WINDOWS XP EMBEDDED CONFIGURATION**
1. Insert Windows XP CD in optical drive
2. Install on to Partition C:\
3. Insert Windows XP Embedded CD1 and choose $B!H(BTools Setup$B!I(B
4. Install on to partition C:\
5. The installation will require a CD key that will be provided by
email. To register for the key go to www.microsoft.com/windowsembedded/evalkey
6. Choose Typical installation
7. Select $B!H(BThis Computer$B!I(B if the machine being used will be used with
WinXPE
8. Select $B!H(BDatabase Setup$B!I(B from CD1 Menu
9. Insert CD2 and continue installation
10. The installation will require a CD key that will be provided by
email. To register for the key go to www.microsoft.com/windowsembedded/evalkey
11. Choose Typical installation
12. Wait for the Database to be built
13. Insert CD3
14. Select $B!H(BDatabase Engine update$B!I(B from CD Menu
15. Finish setup
16. Restart System
17. Select $B!H(BDatabase update$B!I(B from CD Menu
18. Finish setup
19. Select $B!H(BTools update$B!I(B from CD Menu
20. Finish setup
21. Insert CD4
22. Select $B!H(BWindows Installer 3.1$B!I(B from CD Menu
23. Finish setup
24. Select $B!H(BTools update$B!I(B from CD Menu
25. Finish Setup
26. Run the Component Database Manager from the start menu $B!H(BPrograms $B"*(B
Microsoft Windows Embedded Studio $B"*(B Component Database Manager$B!I(B and
choose from the $B!H(Bpackage$B!I(B tab $B!H(BWindows XP Embedded Client (x86)
Version$B!I(B
27. Go to *:\Program Files\Windows Embedded\utilities\ and run
$B!H(Btap.exe$B!I(B to get the system$B!G(Bs hardware information
28. Run the $B!H(BTarget Designer$B!I!I(B from the start menu
29. Choose $B!F(BFile $B"*(B New $B"*(BNew Configuration$B!I(B and type in the desired
configuration name
30. Choose $B!H(BFile $B"*(B import$B!I(B and select C:/Progam Files/Windows Embedded/
utilities/DEVICES.PMQ
31. Set a name for the Log File and start importing
32. Press F5 to check dependency
33. Check the boxes next to the components shown in the $B!H(BTasks$B!I(B that
you want to use in this configuration.
34. Press F5 again
35. From the Component Menu on the left-hand side of the screen choose
all Software components that you need for the installation and check
their properties with the $B!H(B+$B!I(B button.
36. Add from the $B!H(BComponents$B!I(B tree structure on the left hand side all
of the following if they are not added, and change their settings :

Information Appliance
Home Gateway
Enhanced Write filter
Eng Lang Support
Configuration Explorer
Client/Server Runtime
Advance SetTop Box
Winlogon Samle Macro

37. Press F5 again
38. Make sure there are no items left in the $B!H(BTasks$B!I(B section.
39. Press F5 again if there are
40. Save the project
41. Press F7 to Build your XPE Image, but do it in a different folder
e.g. D:\XPE1
42. Copy all files from D:\XPE1 except boot.ini to C:\ or your main
Windows Partition
43. In boot.ini (located for example in C:\) add the line

44. Restart the System
45. After a restart, the build will be complete, and WinXpEmbedded
will start automatically
