windows xp download from microsoft

this computer needs all the patches and downloads offered
from day one, when i went in to download the updates, it
took foever to download the first one xp service pack 1,
it has been trying to install for over 6 hours, the
window seems to be frozen and the install progress shows
not activity. the site won't let me re-download so i can
start all over and it won't install, now what do i do?

That's a monster of a download. You can order a CD copy of it at a nominal
cost:
