I've been chasing an intermittent connect problem that's
become a solid failure. I've localized the problem to my
XP laptop. I's prefer not to have to re-install windows
and the attendent reloading of all the apps.
Symptoms: I can ping internet addresses in numeric form,
but can resolve URLs. I've got the right DNS entries
(loaded via DHCP using IPCONFIG/RELEASE and /RESTORE), and
the rest of my PCs on the same router work fine.. I
suspect reloading windows is what needs to happen, but
I've got a ton of applications that I don't have the
original media for any more.
Is there a way to do a partial install of the network
stuff that has to do with DNS?
