Hi there,
I bought a video capture card (TX Hollywood Film Maker). I put the card in a
PCI slot as it's explained but when I rebooted, windows (XP) didn't detect
the card. So I tried to put the card in an other PCI slot, but nothing
changed. I checked the system if the card appears but there were no new
devices found. Can anyone help me?
thanks...

Are you sure the card isn't a dud?

Otherwise try www.ntcompatible.com to see if it's listed
there or I'm sure MS maintains a list of compatible stuff
somewhere on their website.

Hi, thanks for the attention
What is a dud?

A broken card, only way to tell is to try it either in
another machine or with another o/s in the same machine. The
fact nothing is detected suggests it's broken so no signal is
feeding in to the PCI slots.

Or it could be a broken motherboard, although I would expect
other problems to be occuring. Do you have another PCI card
you could move to one of the slots you've tried it in?

I'll try the card with an other PC. Some time ago, I tried to install a
graphic card in a PCI slot and Windows detected it, so I guess the
motherboard works fine. I have 2 PCI slots, so I tried to switch but it
doesn't detect the card in any of these slots.
I also thought that as I had a graphic card installed before (which I
removed long time ago), maybe Windows thought that the new card was that old
graphic card. I tried to remove some drivers, but nothiing happened. At the
end, I removed so many things that windows couldn't boot normally, so I
formated the PC and re-installed windows. Before I re-installed it, I even
removed an intern modem. So, by now, all I have is the graphic card that
came with the PC (in that brown slot) and all the rest is free. I really
don't know what else I could do.

OK, I just tried to install the card in an other computer (with windows 98)
but the card isn't detected either, so chances are that the card is a "dud"
I just ****ing hate it, to buy something, arriving home, all excited and
find out that the card doesn't work! Grrr....

If the card came with a driver disk have you tried installing the card's
driver(s) manually then re-booting?

There is absolutely nothing else but that card pluggin in. In device
manager, othing appears, only the sound card and so on. There were some
things I couldn't find out what it was, so I tried to update the driver, I
indicated the new driver location but windows couldn't find any appropriate
driver on the CD-Rom, so I guess none of the devices I tried (and I tried
them all) is the PCI card.
But anyway, I tried the card with an other PC, with Windows 98 and guess
what? The card isn't detected, so I think the card is dead. I went to the
shop and they will replace it.
Thnk you very much anyway, guys!!!

I have got a similar problem with a Rage Fury Pro card.
It was in a pc which had died and I was rebuilting the computer.
Anyway the card in undectected by window, it loading a standard vga
driver and no matter what I do I can not get the card detected.

I downloaded the ATI Utiltity for dectecting the card and it was able to
tell me what card it was and everything else about the card. But I could
not run any test do to the fact I could not load any drivers.

When I tryed and load the driver program and the system reboots, the
system lock up in the preload before Win98 even has a chance to load up.
I have attempted various drivers for this card and they all lock up.
I have even formated and reloaded win98 and it still does the same
things.

I am going to assumme the card is dead. Unless someone has something
else I should try.

I am unable to try it out in another computer right now. So is there
anything else I could try before I chuck it?

Thanks
