Windows XP does not shut down

Recently Windows XP has stopped shutting down. It seems to hang and the
"Windows shutting down" screen and I have to unplug the CPU as the button
will not shut it off, now will Control, Alt, Delete.

As stated above, this is a recent problem. I would appreciate any
assistance you could give.

See if you show any problems in the event viewer. It is probably some
software hanging or something that is not shutting down correctly.
