I have reasonable literacy in PC but am not an expert. Recently, I tried to
burn a DVD and could not. I noticed when I opened the explore option under
Start that the F & G drives were not listed. I have burned DVD and CD and
this had never happened. I have two books on XP and looked at possible
solutions. First, however, I booted in Safe Mode. Everything worked
properly. When using Explore all thumbnails were shown. I could load
documents previously burned to a DVD.
I tried using MSCONFIG and selected various options to initiate upon
Booting. Nothing helped except SafeMode.
Device Manager recognizes the drives but has an error message of Code 37.
I found the error messages in the MS website and that indicated I should
uninstall the devices and "scan for hardware" so they are re-installed. I
did and no improvement.
I have automatic update turned on and have loaded Picasso in the last
several months.
Also, I note that my restore points are not available. System restore points
are turned on for all drives.
Any suggestion before I call someone to come over that has more expertise
than I have.
Thanks in advance.
