Recently got my new computer with windows XP,
had always worked with win2k pro before.

My first impressions were really good... Seems to be an
exellent OS..

But when I looked a little closer, I wasn't able to choose my own colors
for active screens, non active screens, selected, ... with the windows XP
style.
Of course this is possible in classic windows style.

How can I personallize that?
Is this possible to do this in Windows, or do I need some extra software?

Any hints, tips, info about which software I need to use is very welcome.

Kind regards,
Gery D.

Hi Gery,

I myself just moved from W2K to XP Pro, so I can help ya. Just FYI,
98 and 2000 both used to store Themes in c:\program files\plus\themes
(althought bot readily apparent in W2K).

XP stores it's themes in C:\Windows\Resources\Themes. They have centralized
access to themes, desktop and appearance in the Display Properties dialogue
now. (r-click on the desktop/Properties). There are also further desktop
customizations in My Computer/Properties/Advanced\Performance.(tip: Ticking
"adjust for best performance turns off the desktop fluff, thus saving
resources)

If you have not added any new themes, the default options are Default (blue)
and Classic. Desktop tab is just as it was in 98-2000, select a picture. On
that tab is also Customize desktop, where you can change your default icons.
Appearance Tab is where you can actually change the colours as you wish.
Note the three drop-downs: Windows and buttons, Color Scheme and Font size,
this is another method to change your desktop and window settings.

When you get everything just the way that you want it, goto the Themes tab
and save your new theme.
I hope that helped.
