Windows XP delete functionality

Today I noticed something wrong with my Windows XP installation:
Whenever I delete a file, it seems that it's deleted, but, Windows does
not actually reclaim disk space.

I thought this may be because of MFT problem, but that was not the
case: even FAT & FAT32 drives had the same problem.

I booted my system with a clean bootable CD, and noticed that Delete
function works perferct.

I thought it might be because of a virus, but, Kaspersky showed no sign
of a virus (although I must admit that its signature is a bit old)

Any Idea?

Depends on how you delete it. If you select it in Windows Explorer and
delete it from there, it actually gets copied to the recycle bin. The
space isn't actually freed up until it cycles out of the bin (takes a
long time in my experience) or you empty the recycle bin.

Sorrily, that's not the case. I press SHIFT+DEL, and recycle bin is
empty.

I'm an experienced user, and I'm sure this mis-behavior is a
today-issue with my XP installation.
