windows xp crash

Several weeks ago, I downloaded service pack 3. The next day I installed
WordPerfect office x3. My system crashed and I had to take it Fry's for a
complete reinstallation of the OS. Now I am afraid to update to service pack
3. I reinstalled my old wp 12. I am still scratching my head. What happened?

If it was working fine between Service Pack 3 installation and 'the next
day' when you installed WordPerfect Office... I don't believe your problem
was SP3.
 
Unless there is a potential clash between Wordperfect Office x3 and SP3.
But admitedly, that sounds like a long shot.
