I was running my computer one day and when I reboot the
machine a message comes up that it needs to start with the
options of safe modes, last known config, and start
normal. I have tried all those options and I have used the
repair console with "expanding kernel32.dll" from article
310396 but still nothing. Just to make sure that there
wasn't anything wrong with my drive I had reinstalled xp
in a diff. directory, and the new install works fine but I
need to get my old one back up and running because I have
all my stuff registered and it's a pain to redo it. Also
when I tried reinstalling XP for windows directory, it did
not give me the option of repairing the windows
installation, only deleting the directory and starting
again from scratch. PLEASE HELP!

On reinstalling WinXP if you chose though not willingly to delete the old
directory then your first version is
gone. Do a google search for Deleted File Recovery.
