I am thinking about putting together a new computer, and have been
interested in the new AMD 64-bit Athlon. However I am wondering if there is
any compatibility issues using the 32-bit OS with a 64-bit system. Probably
stupid to ask but it is a concern. Does anyone know if Windows XP off the
shelf at say BestBuy is compatible with a 64-bit system, or do you need a
new special version of Windows XP?

From what I've read, MS is working on a special release of XP for the 64 bit
AMD. How long it will be in coming, I don't know. A few people have posted
to these groups who use the 64 bit AMD so, I guess, the 32 bit version of XP
will work with it.

LOL, JAX

I've already built a system: AMD Athlon 64 3000+,Gigabyte GA-K8NNXP motherboard, Radeon 9600xt, 512MMB RAM,2x36GB Raptor 10,000 drives and so on. I'm running Win 2000 pro. just get all the latest updates for everything and it will work fine. I got a copy of Win XP 64 bit version and installed it. its really fast and works great but I cant get the motherboard chipset drivers in 64 bit version so its not really a complete install. when Microsoft ships the retail version of Win XP 64 and the motherboard manufacturers provide drivers for it this will be a bad a$$ system.
