Microsoft says that the minimum needed for Windows XP Home
Edition is a Pentium 300 MHz with 128 Mb ram.

Does anyone know if I'm asking for trouble purchasing it to
load on a Pentium Pro 200 MHz with 128 Mb ram?

Chuck;
300mhz is recommended minimum, 233 is minimum.
Windows XP will not work on that computer.
Even if it would, you would most likely be dissatisfied with the poor
performance.

No, I suggest Windows 2000 Pro for the above machine, NOT XP.
