music cds. please help.

If you created those CDs by dragging and dropping files to the CD or by
saving directly to a CD from an application, this is known as packet writing
and is not supported natively in XP. known as
packet writing and XP does not support that function natively. This
requires third party software such as the Direct CD component of Easy CD
Creator, www.roxio.com or the InCD component of Nero, www.nero.com.

Check the web sites for version compatibility with XP as well as compatible
CD-Writers.

XP has built-in UDF driver that works just fine with packet-written CDs created by Direct CD or
Incd.
However UDF disks can be sensitive to misc. write errors, bad or damaged media (especially
rewritable).
Then, disk will be seen by XP as empty.
UDF driver update from Roxio suppports newer UDF formats but is much less stable.
It may even bluescreen in case of disk read errors, that I've almost never seen on Microsoft's
driver.

The *read* problem of original poster is probably some software confict between several CD writing
warez (filter drivers...)

Unfortunately, the built in XP UDF drivers doesn't work on all systems,
although, your point about such disks being sensitive to write errors or
bad or damaged media is well taken.

While your point about warez is certainly valid, it's just one more possible
issue.

I also, don't advise anyone to install the Roxio UDF reader as it quite
often ends up hosing the setup. Anything short of installing the proper and
compatible packet writing software, for the moment, I see as a half way
measure.
