Windows XP automatic update

For the past several weeks apparently one of the automatic updates isn't
installing -- I turn off the computer allowing for the installation and get
the message that installation is in progress. But that message at turning
the machine off continues. Is there a way to find out what the update is and
how would I get it installed assuming the note of the installation is
accurate.
 
Just go to MS Update and in the left column it gives you and option to
check your update history.
