Have any of you "gamers" installed XP SP2 and if so, have you
experience any major problems? Thanks in advance!

Well, so far I've run the following with no changes (working perfectly):
Diablo II +expansion (networked, b.net, and single player)
Unreal Tournament 2k4
Freelancer (networked)
Neverwinter Nights (+ expansions)
Impossible Creatures (demo)
Halo
(those are just off the top of my head.)

I figure I'll run more over the weekend - probably Knights of the Old
Republic, and the Neverwinter Nights toolset. But so far, so good. I ran
Halo specifically because someone with an nVidia card said they couldn't get
it running after the service pack, but as stated... so far, so good.

I've upgraded two systems, no problems. Nero 6 Ultra Edition popped up a
window, advising me that I needed to download a few updates, which I did,
and all is well.

To be fair to Microsoft, most of what I've read, or heard, regarding
problems, is related to it's own built-in firewall. It's enabled by
default, and there are a lot of people who don't understand how firewalls
work, or how to configure them. It's fairly easy. However, I chose to
disable it, and continue using my Norton Firewall, by Symantec.

Thanks for the feedback...I'll take a backup disk image
of my system and install the service pack...

I play Counterstrike adn after the load I get memory
referenced errors and the game shuts down. If anyone has
experience with ABIT NF7-S and DDR 400 please post back. I
am having hella trouble.

Hi DevDog, what make of memory are you running as NF7-S's are quite 'quirky'
about memory modules.....

Yes!

I'm unable to start the game Secret Weapons (SWON) Over Normandy.

After recieving the kind service, the game has a problem with both DirectX
(9.0c) and the display adapter ( from a newly released NVIDIA ForceWare)
wich worked fine before SP2.

It all started with the game telling me that DirectX (9.0c) needed to be
updated if I didn´t have version 9.0b or a newer one, and giving me the
opportunity to do that.
Having done that from the game CD in a matter of no time (and of course
the 9.0c was still present), I´m gratulated, without that having solved the
problem.

The DirectX diagnosing tool shows no problem other than that the driver from
the NVIDIA ForceWare is not digitally signed. But this driver is the
newest one available and seems more combatible with games like Home World2
wich recomended updating the signed driver downloaded from Windows Update,
and having done that with the one not signed, has not been a problem in that
game (even after SP2).

Nothing seems to help with this. Even after restoring the system I'm unable
to access the game cd or even uninstalling it.
Back to SP2 by undoing the previous system restore, I was able to start
the CD again but not the game. Uninstalled the SWON game twice without that
helping (keeping precious saved missions (and settings) the first time).

I'm unable to solve this problem and getting in the game, and no solutions
or updated drivers seems to be available.

Please give advice if anyone has!

Hi Agrim,

If that game is writing over existing DirectX files which
exist on your system and are definitely more recent, then
I would install the game before installing SP 2. The fault
seems to be that the game doesn't recognize DX 9.0c.

After installing Win XP SP2 I can't get Halo to work.. I
get an error message about direct3D error. Tried a
solution on microsoft website but still does not
work...seems like its a problem with higher-end video
cards with 256Md RAM. (I have a Radeon 9600 256Mb) Beware
after installing SP2!

Have you checked the drivers, or reinstalled them? I have a Radeon 9800 Pro
and had no issue at all.
