Hi everyone

I keep getting the following message:
"windows must now restart because the remote procedure
call service was initiated unexpectedly"

windows then restarts. can anyone tell me how to resolve
it. I have had my laptop since feb 2003 but only now
started using it. Do I need to update XP with any
patches?

thanks

Greetings --

If you connected the PC to the Internet without having first
enabled a firewall, without having first installed an antivirus
application with current virus definition files, and before installing
the KB828471 Hotfix, you're very likely to get infected from any of
the thousands of PCs on the Internet that are constantly broadcasting
the Blaster and/or Welchia worms. It only takes a few seconds of
exposure.

To stay on-line long enough to get the necessary updates, patches,
and removal tools, click Start > Run, and enter "shutdown -a" when the
next RPC countdown begins. This will abort the shut down. Also, make
sure you've enabled a firewall before starting, to preclude any more
intrusions while getting the updates/patches/tools.

Hi All

thanks for all the replies. I will go to the URLs. It
seems like everyone is agreed that I have a virus - even
PC World said the same. They also gave me a CD to remove
the virus. However they then said I should buy anti-virus
software and I bought Norton's for £50 which seems very
expensive. However, I have two pc and it is only licensed
for one.
