Monica

I am having a problem with a couple of Windows XP machines
when I attach them to a Windows 2000 server and join them
to the domain. I have copied the orginial local profile
to the profile the domain has created. However I am
finding that not all of my programs seem to work and it
doesn't always copy my background either. Any ideas.

Hi, Monica -

Were you logged into either profile when you copied the
local profile over the domain profile? I've done this
about a gazillion times and never had even a hiccup
unless I either didn't have the proper file permissions
to the profile or was logged into either the source or
target profile.

Can you give us a little more information?

thanks -

I was logged into the computer as the administrator when I
copied the profiles from the orgininal to the new. I have
done this with other machines in the past and have not had
a problem. The only difference between these machines and
the machines I done this in the past is that these
machines have been upgrade to XP from Windows 98. I don't
know if that would make a difference. I was also reading
about making sure that the view setting is to show all
files and I am not sure if that was the case. Do you
think that might cause this. Or do you think it might be
a restriction on my user. We did set the user to be an
administrator on both the local computer and on the
Windows 2000 server. Any ideas.

Thanks,
Monica

You might be onto something, Monica - you can't select
files you can't see :)

Another thing worth trying is taking ownership of the old
profile but I'm not sure that's gonna make much
difference. If you can copy or move files around in the
old profile you probably have all the rights you need.

good luck!
