Windows XP and PowerTools 1.3.0.196

My uncle has Windows XP (HE). The other day I installed the last
freeware version of PowerTools (1.3.0.196) on his machine. When I tried
to run it a window popped up saying something like "This version of
PowerTools is too old. Get a newer version." I staggered home shocked,
uninstalled my copy of PT and then reinstalled it. All went well, PT
works fine (sorry about the anticlimax), but then again, I have Win98.
So, has this happened anyone else using XP?

I'm happily using TweakUI 2.10.0.0

I think PowerToys are no longer available in one big bunch. I think you must
download them piecemeal.

I've been using jv16 PowerTools v1.3.0.196 on XP Home ever since it was
released. Did you try downloading it again, or downloading it from a
different site such as http://www.absey-vine.co.uk/software/jv16pt_setup.zip
?

Anne,
You probably did use too old of a version of Powertoys. XP has it's
own versions listed (and available) here:

Note that the link may wrap in your newsreader. Also note the following:

"PowerToys will only work with US-English regional settings."

Someone is confused; OP talks about Power Tools which from the release I
figured was JV Power Tools, then someone else confused this with Power Toys
???

I think Power Toys is a Microsoft product (a free one at that), but it is
not Power Tools.

I have Windows XP Home though not there now, and I run JV PT last free
version whatever it was without any problem.

ACCKKK!!! Thanks for catching that Andy. I followed on Bob Adkin's
post, but sent the reply directly to the OP. Should have drank another
cup of coffee before I posted that.

Hi Jordan and all.
First: I did mean jv16PowerTools. I should have been more precise.
I've been using jv16 PowerTools v1.3.0.196 on XP Home ever since
it was released. Did you try downloading it again, or downloading
it from a different site such as

No I didn't. Originally I got it from
http://digidownload.libero.it/rareware/jv16pt_setup.zip
and it's version 1.3.0.196 *definitely*.
Now I'm thinking maybe there were remains of an earlier version of
PowerTools in the XP's registry, and that caused the warning. So, I
must clean the registry with another registry cleaner, before I can
install a registry cleaner :-) That's what I'll try anyway.

Thanks all.
