windows xp and outlook express

We have windows xp loaded and receive automatic updates
from windows, which we have installed. We also use
outlook express for email (with verizon.net as our ISP.)
Outlook express has automatically blocked attachments
that I've sent myself from my office, with a prompt
saying that they are unsafe. (Our office system is quite
good, so I think they are safe.) Two questions for you
experts out there:
--When we automatically install windows updates, do those
updates include the security updates for outlook
express? If not, should we download outlook express
updates from its website?
--How can I adjust outlook express so that "trusted"
addresses (e.g., my office) can send me attachments that
are not blocked? thanks

Hi,

1) yes, they do, and this is a direct cause of your issue because one of the
updates creates the blocking feature, and it is on by default.

2) From Outlook Express, click tools/options and on the security tab uncheck
the option "do not allow attachments to be saved....".

Greetings --

Outlook Express' default security settings are simply trying to
protect you. OE has no way of telling whether an attachment actually
contains a virus or not, so it temporarily blocks any of those file
types that could potentially contain a virus. In Outlook Express,
Tools > Options > Security, uncheck the "Do not allow attachments to
be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus" option, assuming
you trust the source, of course. The wiser course of action, however,
would be to modify your list of unsafe files, as outlined in the KB
articles below:
