Windows XP and ME networking problem

I have a dsl connection and wireless router connected to
a destktop running ME. My laptop, which is able to
connect to the internet through a wireless card, cannot
access the printer connected to the desktop, nor can it
access files from the desktop. My problem is that when I
inserted the home network disc into my laptop (XP), I
received a message that in order to use the networking
wizard, my laptop must be using ME, 98, or 95.

Is there any way to create a network between my desktop
and laptop?

Run the networking wizard directly on the XP laptop: open the Network
Connections folder and click "Set up a home or small office network".
Tell the wizard that the computer connects to the Internet through a
residential gateway.
