I format my computer every 3 months. Needless to say I
have worn out my ability to activate my copy of XP Pro
through the internet. I've had to call Microsoft twice
already. DOn't get me wrong the process was easy....but
I'm in the military and stationed Germany the phone calls
aren't toll free and get kinda of expensive. Is there a
way to reset the activation key?

Greetings --

Not really. Anyway, the best solution would be to eliminate the
problem(s) that lead you to reformat and reinstall the OS every three
months. Even Win95 at it's worst didn't need to be reinstalled so
often.

Exactly what kind of problems are you having that "require"
frequent reinstallations?

I've never tried this, but it is supposedly possible to save the files that
contain the activation information:

http://www.theeldergeek.com/activation_workaround.htm

(The files are wpa.dbl and wpa.bak). It may work if the hardware is
completely unchanged.

I'm surprised, though - if the "hardware hash" is unchanged, you ought to be
able to re-activate via the Net, or so I've read.

Good luck.

Buy an imaging program | format the drive | install XP | activate it | install the imaging program | set it up the way you like it | create an image. Now you can restore the activated image whenever you want - no phone call. I use TrueImage from www.acronis.com HTH.
