Will this run on the subject machine?

I just purchased a new computer running the suject product and would like to
use the Microsoft Anti-spyware on it.

Microsoft Antispyware is a 32-bit application. I just read a thread at
SYSINTERNALS (I think I was searching on XP 64 bit and virtual PC, or
similar.

Anyway. Microsoft Antispyware installs and runs fine on 64-bit XP.

It detects and removes only 32-bit threats, according the the sysinternals
author--not sure what a 64-bit spyware might look like, these days?

Here's the reference:

http://www.sysinternals.com/blog/2005/05/running-everyday-on-64-bit-windows.html

We've a number of folks who've written into these groups to attest that this
works fine--there was a DEP exception in one upgrade process--but that
exception happened on both 32-bit and 64-bit platforms.

Thanks Bill

I will give it a try. Hopefully Microsoft's Antispyware will offer both a
32-bit and 64-bit version that will run on the same 64-bit machine. Makes me
think I should have waited to invest in a 64-bit machine. :) Anyway I run it

Yes your right Bill it runs just fine on XP 64-bit I just installed it. But
as you stated it only looks at 32-bit stuff. I do tech editing and
programming so I wanted a 64-bit Windows to run Vista. I'm still going to
wait for beta 2 or later to install it on my Intel 64-bit machine :)

I believe 64-bit Vista may well end up outselling 32-bit, over time. My
wife has a 64 bit AMD system upstairs, and I've installed 64 bit XP on it,
but since there's no driver for the (admittedly old and lame duck) wireless
network card we're using at present, it hasn't gotten much use--didn't even
manage to activate it....

Yes getting drivers for 64-bit is really a problem but I did find a really
good 64-bit antivirus program. I had to search awhile since so many providers
don't offer a 64-bit antivirus.

One of the features listed for AVG 7.1, due for release between now and
Monday is a 64 bit version, as I recall.....

OTOH, I'm running a beta from a well known company designed for consumer
ease of use, and it doesn't even install on 64 bit XP.

It runs fine on it.. I've been running it since the official release of
Windows x64.. as far as it going to detect x64 bit threats, there really
are'nt any to speak of.

32 Bit virus/worms/spyware CAN infect Windows x64.. don't think it can't for
one second. Also.. remember Windows x64 has 32 bit versions of Internet
Explorer 6 and Outlook Express and they are vunerable to 32 bit malware.

I run Windows Antispyware Beta in conjucntion with x-cleaner free ..
x-cleaner is one of the best spyware/adware/backdoor trojan detectors there
is.
