Hi I have a laptop with a fully updated version of
Windows XP home. I have noticed two preference settings I
lose during boot up.

The first is that I like to have the status bar show when
I am in 'My Computer' however after each boot I have to
reselect that option.

The second and far more annoying is that I want
the 'Power Options Properties' set to 'Always On'.
However every time I reboot the 'Power Options
Properties' switches to the 'PowerSuite Scheme'. I have
deleted the 'PowerSuite Scheme' on many occasions only to
find it back after the next boot.

I do suspect that the problem is related to one of the
many windows updates however I do not know which, nor do
I have the patience to format, install update, test,
install update, test etc...

Thank you for any help.

Are you perchance running a Toshiba laptop? They often come
with a lot of preloaded software to regulate the touchpad,
display settings, and the power settings. If you really
want to get rid of the Powersuite scheme, see if there's a
way of uninstalling the software or contact Toshiba for
further information.

If that's still no go, give this site a try. I had troubles
where my power schemes disappeared and this fixed them
(i.e. I couldn't save any new power schemes).

Hope this helps,

I'm running a Sony Vio.
I tried the steps in the url, minus the final step of
reinstalling windows. (Right after the initial format I
uninstalled the crap preloaded software.) However after
rebooting the power suite scheme is back and is the
default power scheme.

Windows XP Defaults to PowerSuite Scheme on Sony Vaio

Also on a Vaio (PCG-GRX 550 running Windows XP Service Pack 2). Also having the exact same problem. Also ran through the full process of modifying the registry as defined at http://support.gateway.com/s/issues/1-708807845.shtml

All works fine as long as the box is on (I can choose any power setting I like). However, as soon as I restart, PowerSuite Scheme is added back into the Power Options menu (even after being deleted) and is chosen as the default. Anyone else have any thoughts? If you do, thank you in advance.
