Windows welcome screen

Hi,

when I log on my PC via the welcome screen (not the ctrl-
alt-del), I get a message that I got 2 unread e-mail
messages on my outlook account. The problem is that in
Outlook I don't have any unread messages. Does somebody
know how to remove this annoying message?

I use MSOffice 2003. Thanks for the help.

TweakUI for XP can be used to disable the mail account or cause XP to
"consider email abandoned after x number of days."

TweakUI is one of the Power toys for XP.

TweakUI v2.00 for Windows XP:.
http://download.microsoft.com/download/whistler/Install/2/WXP/EN-US/TweakUiPowertoySetup.exe

TweakUI v2.10 for Windows XP SP1:

Luca,

Here is a link that helps explain how the OS and Office get this number -
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;831403.

If you want to remove this functionality you can download TweakUI from
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp and then do
the following:
1. Start Tweak UI.
2. Select the Repair branch in the left-hand pane of the dialog box.
3. Select "Repair unread mail count" in the right-hand pane, then click
"Repair Now".
4. Close Tweak UI.

I hope this helps,
Dennis Davis [msft]
