When checking a HDD partition I receive the following error:
"Windows was unable to complete the disk check"
I tried chkdsk and it worked, no bad sectors were found with chkdsk.
I had been using the HDD with a rack with a fan but as the fan needed to be replaced I was advised by a service representative that the fan was not needed and also that the HDD had a temperature protection just in case (I don't know if it's true). The HDD temperature increased and while I was actively copying data from one partition to another, when I returned, the PC was restarted and on boot there was a "Disk Error" message. After another reboot it worked but some registry files were corrupt and Windows needed to be reinstalled. I suspect that the HDD reached max temperature, stopped working, causing the PC to restart and while it was overheated, the boot error showed up. I don't know if this is the reason. Now I can't check the HDD. What could have happened, how can I check the HDD and how true is the information that Windows returns?
